Tomographic PTV

The DynamicStudio Software Platform provides Tomographic PTV as an efficient and accurate technique for tracking individual particles within a 3D measurement volume. Powerful reconstruction algorithms are used to generate a 3D digital image from three or four 2D camera images. The 3D position of each particle can then be plotted through the measurement volume and via 3D Lagrangian Particle Tracking.

Infos / Datasheet

When the measurement system can acquire images fast enough to follow particles for many timesteps as they progress through the measurement volume, Time Resolved 3D Lagrangian Particle Tracking is possible (sometimes referred to as 4D Lagrangian Particle Tracking).

Dantec’s Tomographic PTV software has been validated using both synthetically generated data and a range of experimental datasets to demonstrate its capability to track particles in high seeding density environments. For water-based applications, various types of seeding particles, ranging from 10µm to 100µm spheres, can be utilized. Time-Resolved Volumetric PTV measurements can be illuminated using lasers or high-power LEDs.

In air, Tomographic PTV can be performed with 1-10um oil droplets in combination with a laser for illumination. Alternatively, the physical size of the 3D measurement can be increased using 500um sized Helium Filled Soap Bubbles from the Dantec Helium Filled Soap Bubble Generator.  In this case lasers or LEDs can be used for illumination, depending on the flow velocity.

In all cases the Tomographic PTV algorithms output data for densely seeded flows as Time Resolved 3D Lagrangian Particle Tracks. Data can be visualized as particle tracks or converted to a regular grid for further interrogation and calculations.
